1. God hath appointed a Day wherein he will judge the world in righteousness 1by Jesus Christ, to whom all power and judgement is given of the Father; in which Day not only the 2apostate angels shall be judged, but likewise all persons that have lived upon the earth shall appear before the tribunal of Christ 3to give an account of their thoughts, words, and deeds, and to receive according to what they have done in the body, whether good or evil.
2. On that Day, Christ will first 4remove his Church from the earth by resurrection and translation, 5then pour out God’s righteous judgments on the world of unbelief; 6afterwards descend with his Church and establish his glorious kingdom over all nations for a thousand years; 7at the close of which he will raise the unrighteous dead for their final judgment and usher his saints into the everlasting kingdom of his Father in a new heavens and new earth.
3. The end of God’s appointing these judgments is for 8the manifestation of the glory of his mercy in the eternal salvation of the elect, 9and of his justice in the eternal damnation of the reprobate, who are wicked and disobedient.
4. As Christ would have us to be certainly persuaded that there shall be a Day of judgement, both 10to deter all men from sin and for the greater 11consolation of the godly in their adversity; so will he have that Day unknown to men, that they may shake off all carnal security and be always watchful, because they know not at what hour the 12Lord will come; and may ever be prepared to say, 13“Come Lord Jesus, Come quickly.” Amen.
