Hermeneutics

Hermeneutics is the study of the interpretation of Scripture. Each Christian is tasked with studying the Word of God, and where one starts in their interpretive method, will lead one to make specific conclusions about the text. It is my belief that the Literal Grammatical Historical (LGH) methodology should be the starting place (axiom) for every believer when examining any text of the bible. The LGH is central and presuppositional to every believer who opens the Word of God, and is the only place to begin to truly understand the heart of the Word of God. This practice isn’t, however, restricted to what is known as “wooden” literalism. What I mean by that, is one isn’t restricted to only using the LGH. There is of course figurative language scattered throughout scripture, there is also heavily symbolic language. The way in which one tests the validity of their hermeneutical approach is by proceeding to what is called “exegesis”. If your hermeneutical approach is correct, it will lead to the proper exegetical analysis of the text. This will indeed allow you to pull out the proper interpretation, and will in turn allow you to remain consistent within the text.
